Heres an alternative build for the counterpart to the 55 monk for smite runs. I myself got bored of SSing after so many runs. I also can't take full credit for this build seeing how its my friends idea that made me come around to create it. Thnx Sily Wabbit

Build 1.
Ranger/Mesmer

9 Illusion
8 expertise 5+3
16 wilderness 12+3+1
9 marks 8+1

I recomend druids armor for the energy seeing how you will have low expertise.

Famine, Ancestors's Visage, Sympathetic Visage, Apply Poison, Savage shot, Whirling defence, Troll Unguent, Rez sig

Easy enough keep visage on your 55 monk as he holds aggro and put down famine and watch. apply poison is for some degen and to help kill coldfires. Savage shot nightmares/coldfires.

Build 2.

Mesmer/Ranger

4 Fast Cast 3+1
15 Illusion 11+3+1
7 Domination 6+1
12 Wilderness

Once again I recomend Enchanters armor. The extra energy is always nice.

Famine, Ancestors's Visage, Sympathetic Visage, Images of Remorse, Conjure Phantasm, Mind Wrack, Power Spike, Rez sig

Basically the reverse of the above build. Keep Visage on the 55 monk and slap Famine down. Use images of Remorse and Mind Wrack just to help with the dmg. Power Spike is here just incase you get that random nightmare. otherwise remorse will kill them off easy enough. For coldfires just spam remorse and use Conjure to degen them out.

If your 55 monk is up for it he can pull a group of smites into a group of coldfires. This will degen the coldfires energy allowing Famine to work.

just wanna add, it goes alittle slow on the aatxes, but this build just tears through smites. also, if your sick of echoing the wrong thing, this is in essence better, lay spirit and keep SV/Ancestors up is easier then a SS's order of skills.

I think Poison Arrow should be apply poison, as you have an elite already.
Besides that, why not add in EoE? I think it would be of more use than Whirling Defense.
Nice find though, I'll try and convince a 55 guildie to go with me in this build.

I've had WD save me a few times when the 55 has died on me. But if your going with a trusted friend then I would recomend an enchant remover for coldfires. Aura of Restoration gets annoying :P. Also a note on the EoE. I believe your attributes would be spread out a bit much and would only weaken your dmg output.

this works. i also use famine + sv / av but w/ a different skill bar for the r/me. don't have the pics of my partner tho. he was using me/r that we had to improvise since his ranger isnt that far into factions yet for the famine cap.

mmm, Famine. AoE energy denial to deal AoE damage ftw.

I wonder what would happen if you took a 55 SS necro and that Famine R/Me into uw together (assuming you could handle nightmares without spellbreaker). Probably a little overkill...

Yes i would agree a bit of an over kill :P. And yes you may be able to get away if you put Av/Sv on the 55 first. The nightmares usually bip before shattering enchants. Its kinda fun watching them kill themselves :P.

to the OP: Have you tried this build yet (55monk + Famine R/Me)? There seems to be a problem with Famine. It will not allocate drops and xp to you since it counts as a foreign source -_-(?). Idk if they've fixed it already tho..

That was a nice update for this build atleast lol. Famine recharge changed from 60sec to 45sec.

Keep WD, drop unguent, you're not tanking, too long of a casting time, and it doesn't heal much for what it's worth.
Your bow attacks are going to do barely any damage, and can only hit one target. EoE will easily deal more damage than all you bow attacks combined, and it offen triggers a chain that kills everything else after the first is dead. IMO, drop marksmanship and put into BM.
Everything else in the build is great. Not only does this deal decent damage, but, like the holy smiter build, you dont need to actually be in the enemy aggro. If the tanker can bring spirit shackles, you can handle ranged enemies too.

You need point in marks. just for the simple reason of killing off any stupid nightmares that won't bip to death, and any coldfires that escape energy drain. also troll has saved me more then a few times due to the 55 dieing and me having to tank the smites to rez them.
